Ray Roberts (1913-1992) served on the staff of Speaker Sam Rayburn of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1941 to 1942, and he was a Texas State senator from 1955 to 1961. On January 30, 1962, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sam Rayburn.
